King Street Energy
Located in Cheshire on a site which carries a unique salt geology, NPL promoted this 240 acre site for underground Gas Storage.
Such projects use solution mining to extract the salt and leave behind a cavern that is suitable for gas storage. The capex for this venture is £300 million with an IRR of 19%. Following significant input and reports planning was granted on this project and subsequently enabled to ensure the project’s status.
The site is currently subject to review under the proposed HS2 and NPL stand ready to amend and implement the project once clarity is received on the routing.
The planning consent includes:
- 10 Gas Storage Caverns on a 237 acre site constructed by solution mining
- Gas compression station
- 58km Twin Water Pipeline from Mersey site for solution mining
- Mersey Pumping Station
- 548 mcm total gas storage
